Nothing to see here, move along...

Gak.
The news is bad enough to begin with.
Excuse me, I'm off to pound my head on the wall a while.
Unfortunately, many of the stories I found regarding this were AP articles all omitting names and race. I did find this: KVUE: Crowd kills passenger riding in car that struck child

I am making an assumption that the person killed was Latino/Hispanic with a name like Morales. I don't view this as a racial conflict but more mob mentality and mob justice for a hit and run.
Yeah that seemed odd to me as well. It's as if Stephen Colbert was reporting.
I understand what the Juneteenth celebration is about, but why do you think the attack had anything to do with race? And the Rodney King incident, maybe I don't remember it correctly, but that was about excessive force, was it not? Not sure I understand what race has to do with this, unless there was specifically something racial going on. Maybe I'm missing it...
Wow, I read that article today, and thought to myself "what's this all about?"... Context is everything. I'm guessing that the people in the car, and the mob members were different races...? If not, I suppose it wouldn't matter. The only other thing that would be good to mention in the article was whether people had been drinking.
[this is good]
When I write crime briefs for my newspaper, my paper's policy is to omit race as a mention unless there are other useful and pertinent descriptive traits (like, say, hairstyle, clothing, hats, shoes, build, height, approximate age). I don't know that there was much in the way of an opportunity to mention race.

I spent a few years on my paper's copydesk too, and I'd've jawed with whoever was slotting that night in favor of a 'graph mentioning just what Juneteenth is. I don't hate, I edu-ma-cate. ;-)

Here is the latest on this story.
