why my life is so good
so, i was furious an hour ago when i got bumped from the first multi-hour-delayed flight that i was on. then this second flight just got pushed back another hour -- we're going on 5 hours or so that i'll have been here before i get out. At least.
Right after the announcement of this latest delay, about 20 of the people who've been waiting here got up, and they all spontaneously picked up their instruments -- SURPRISE STRING ONSOMBULL!
Here's when they started playing:
A little quick Q&A reveals that they are the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. They just finished their first piece, and even accompanied by airport CNN, they sounded great to me.
Update: One of the members just commandeered the gate's PA system and announced that Orpheus is playing Carnegie Hall tomorrow, and that tickets start at $24.

(I did this once when we got stuck at Moscow airport. It was shortly after the iron fence came down and many Russians were leaving the country... unfortunately, we decided on singing them "Moscow Nights"...)
