Worst HouseQuake Ever
We're inept Quakers
We've been here in California for a few minor tremblors, and miss almost every single one. I caught one, once, but Alaina just plain can't catch a quake to save her life. Then I read about people's stuff falling over, dogs barking, cats singing, and we've got nothing. Our animals are as dumb as us
The best part? david is in from New York, and he felt it. At the time, Promiscuous Girl was playing, and I was thinking about how it should be remixed with "HouseQuake", due to the similar beats. IRONY EXCEPT IT'S NOT IRONIC.
HouseQuake!

The first thing that flashed through my mind as the earth shook was "OMG, I haven't updated the earthquake kit in 5 years!" Guess what I'll be doing this weekend.....
My boyfriend and I felt it (in Alameda). We were sitting in bed watching a movie when everything shook a little. It was like a bus passing by, just a little stronger. Then we went like huh, earthquake. None of that freaking out stuff while thinking that people outside of california would probably think we're crazy for not freaking out.
I was at the office - the warehouse kind of groaned and shook, like a dog drying its fur. Brief and unmarkable - but totally disconcerting that all of my earthquake prep is for us being at the house.
We live on the top floor od an old pre-1906 victorian. This was, certainly, not the biggest quake I've been through, but holy crap it shook the shit out of our place. A few things fell over, all the glasses and dishes were rattling, and we could see the building swaying by looking at the ones outside. We've only been there three years, and man does it move compared to the other places we've lived. Just a 4.4, but it felt like way more than a 5.
shut up already. damn.
I was walking down the street (I think) and completely, utterly, entirely missed it (either that or was just finishing up my dinner).
But all evening homeless people (or others who mostly live on the street) were coming up to me and asking "did you feel the quake... I felt the quake..." - better than asking for money I guess and a small bit of bonding amongst residents.
well, in most of the places i have lived, the earth doesn't quake. and i've never felt one in sfo (nothing major has ever happened - i usualy miss them).
the only quake i've experienced was in somerville, mass. i lived across the street from a train track. due to a crappy track, trains in one direction would make my whole apartment shake. also, 18-wheelers would occasionally rumble down the street.
once day, we were watching the news and the house rumbled. but, it felt iff, not the way when the train or trucks come by.
later on we found out that there was a moderate quake in montreal (with tv newscasters jumping under their table while on live tv) and older houses in massachussetts ended up with some cracks or shook like mine.
thought i'd share that. :-)
yeah, sippey, call me an 'east-coast wuss' :-)
ah, charlie. the comment was a reference to the prince song! i'm gonna be the first one under the doorway shaking like a leaf when the big one comes...
yeah, it's a song lyric -- all in good fun. :)
