As I've mentioned, I'm unreasonably proud anytime I get marked as a Best Answer on an Ask MetaFilter thread. I don't think I'd ever have guessed that trolling these questions would be my way to relax at the end of the day, but someone else's problems, devoid of context, when I can add value just by phrasing things the right way? That's pretty delightful; It's like a video game with really good AI.
Anyway, a guy who (I have to assume) must be pretty young asked about how to quit a job in a huff. He's got the kind of complaint that seems like an Important Moral Issue about employment when you're 22, and by the time you're in your 30s, it seems like "that's the worst thing about your job? seriously?"
So, even though there was already a response marked "best answer" on the thread, I waded in and gave my two cents. It wasn't as succinct as my last (oh-so-clever!) answer, but I'm still pretty aw-shucks proud of myself. And I hope the kid learns something useful, too.
Ask MetaFilter, in addition to being one of the best, most useful sites on the web, has a great feature to encourage good contributions: Marking best answers. I really think anyone who's ever left an answer that got marked by the questioner as the "best" really got some satisfaction out of it.
So today, I'm proud of me and Jason for our Best Answers. I talked about business blogging, and Jason talked about cerebral palsy. My topic's not nearly as weighty or learned as Jason's, but I just liked that we're both good at what we do. :)
